It’s a time when high school students transition into adulthood, and what better way to commemorate this milestone than with a unique and fun senior photo session? In this blog post, we’ll take you through an extraordinary senior photo session that brought out the personality and style of one remarkable senior, Stephen. Ashley Smith Photography had the privilege of shooting this session in Spartanburg, SC at two fantastic locations: Pinky’s Revenge Arcade and The Blue OX Hatchet House.

Meet the Senior

Stephen is a talented young man involved in various activities at his high school in Spartanburg, SC. He’s a member of the Marching Band and the gaming club, showcasing his passion for both music and gaming. To add to his unique persona, he has a taste for thrilling TV shows like Dragon Ball Z and edgy movies like Venom and Lucifer. When it comes to music, he enjoys listening to artists like Jonathan Nathan and Blacklite District. But what truly captures his heart are snacks like Oreos, BBQ Pringles, and Blue Ranch Doritos.

The Senior Session

When we asked this senior about the kind of senior session he wanted, he mentioned wanting something “fun and different.” His mom chimed in, saying she wanted photos that showed his genuine personality, not just the typical posed smiles. We decided to go with an adventurous approach, keeping in mind his love for unique experiences. The arcade was an immediate hit, perfectly matching his desire for a different and enjoyable setting in Spartanburg, SC.

Favorite Locations and Style

Stephen expressed a fondness for the fair location from my portfolio. He also admired a specific image featuring a guy in a suit with sunglasses – a testament to his preference for a laid-back yet stylish vibe. As for his style, he described it as “VERY CASUAL,” which gave us a clear direction for the session.

Personal Traits and Goals

One standout trait our senior possesses is his outspoken nature and the willingness to express his opinions candidly. He made it clear that he’s eager to graduate high school and has his sights set on college at APP State as his next adventure.

I am humbled to learn that my work has already left an impression on our senior and his family. They had been captivated by my ability to capture natural light and personalities, making the subjects shine in their photos. A particular session with Austin Kates in a laundry mat had sealed the deal for them.

Session Details

Stephen had some creative ideas for the session. He inquired about the possibility of incorporating a fair setting, inspired by our previous work. While it isn’t fair season, I suggested an arcade. Pinky’s Revenge, however, also piqued his interest and aligned perfectly with his desire for something unique in Spartanburg, SC. He expressed a desire to bring his band hat and instrument for some personalized shots and wanted to showcase his cowboy hat and boots for a distinct look.

This senior photo session was an absolute blast, thanks to our incredible subject’s vibrant personality and open-mindedness. We look forward to capturing more of his unique style and personality as he embarks on his journey beyond high school. It’s seniors like him that remind us why we love what we do – creating lasting memories and incredible experiences through photography.
